Internet Marketing

There is a lot of wooliness about this all inclusive term “INTERNET MARKETING”, it sort of includes me, because I do search engine optimisation, but it includes people who do nothing like me such as affiliate services, which I only see as dubious at best, middle men who skew up serps.

I can honestly say that I have never been a huge fan of vague titles, I’m still a bit unsure of SEO, as there are still so many angles that vary within the practice, that it still isn’t homogeneous enough a bracket for me. Some people are paid to put thousands of simple links into directories, at the other end there are people who do very little of that hard manual stuff, these internet marketing gurus are more into the theoretical side, advising people in where they are going wrong.

In between there are those who do work, but not do link work, but instead put out stuff  to lure in links from other sites, copywriters. This can be done by two ways in general, first there is controversial material, which causes a stir, the second is quality content which people are genuinely interested reading more than once, and want to tell others about.

But no it’s all internet marketing – despair.

Marks and Spencer go Electric

Posted in Brand Awareness, Energy with tags , , , , , on April 12, 2010 by johnmeffen

Marks and Spencers do a lot of things, and they are very famous for a lot of things, among them the high quality of the food that they sell, the fine quality of the clothes that they produce [I especially like their ties], but I never expected to go to M&S for my Electricity.

But of course you don’t actually go to an actual M&S shop for your energy, you contact them via the internet and they bring it to you [or something I can never work out these things work], but still that’s not the point. The point is that among certain people in society, just the name M&S is enough, it’s all about brand awareness. I know a particular lady who would probably like only ever to shop at M&S.

Gas, Electricity, Energy from M&SYou see that’s probably enough, it’s very recognisable, it has a trust value in built that is absolutely priceless, and you know where to go if you ever have any questions, as there is one on nearly every High Street in the land [and several other lands besides]. It’s things like this that mean few other companies really stand a chance, that is just the way it is.

Memory Stik

I just received a very nice memory stik/pen drive from my work. I don’t have a picture of it yet, but as soon as I do I’m gonna put it up here.

It’s like stainless steel, with eqtr.com, down the side, and it far cooler than any of these.

not styx, stiks!Anyway that’s all I have to say for the moment as I have things to do!

Thanx for the stik

Online Furniture – The New Wave

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on March 29, 2010 by johnmeffen

I’ve been noticing out there that there is a new thing out there, perhaps not a phenomenon, but it’s kind of new to me. And that is that the world of furniture retail is being overtaken by online retailers.

I thought you were meant to go and jump about on the bed before you made up your mind about whether or not to buy it. It is a rather large investment after all. But what with the transparency of it all, as in no middle men, no huge mark up. It’s still all a bit new to me, but change happens for a reason, doesn’t it?

shopping online

I suppose what with a decent return policy buying stuff online seems logical enough, as long as it’s an online furniture store that you know and trust, not some new company just set up in the Philippines or somewhere else outlandish like that [well it is to me anyway], as I  hate giving money away never mind to somebody half way around the world. And if it does make things a lot cheaper than they are now then we will all be laughing.

I’m not sure that I need to buy any furniture right now, but if I do I’ll have to look into getting it over the net, as I really can’t be bothered with all that carrying stuff

Boiler Scrappage Scheme In Scotland?

Posted in Central Heating, Devolution, Scotland with tags , , , on March 19, 2010 by johnmeffen

I have seen a lot of stuff about the famed Boiler Scrappage Scheme, in the media and in General, I was reading the Channel 4 Blog about it the other day, I read on the BBC news that it the Scottish Parliament had passed plans to introduce a similar scheme in Scotland too.

But I can never get a decent enough answer to whether the plan does or does not apply to my home country.

Don’t get me at all wrong, I’m a big fan of devolution for Scotland but it does muddy the water sometimes, and it’s as if the climate up here is renowned the world over for being balmy, in fact most days it seems to me “dreich“.

Perhaps “we’ve made our beds, and now must lie them” fits here, I personally am not too bothered, just occasionally would like to be informed about where we stand

health insurance

i recently got a new job, and i’m now put in that position of whether i put in for the company’s corporate health insurance policy, or whether i stick with the good old nhs. i never know if its worth paying for such stuff, when we have already paid it in taxes

call me old fashioned call me whatever, but still it would feel a bit better to have some kind of protection in case something happens [you never know what] from now until… you never know when

i’ll have to think about this one for a bit, never mind the fact that i don’t like spending my money when i really don’t have to.  but then again i really don’t have to spend most of my money on the other kind of stuff i normally spend it on, do i?
